sleep-disord.jpgSleep is a reoccurring state that should happen naturally. If it does not occur naturally it probably means one has some type of medical disorder. Everyone has to get rest in order to survive, including animals. Age plays a factor in how many hours of it one needs.

Out of everyone children must get the most rest. Newborns need to get at least eighteen hours. However, as they get older the amount that they need decreases. An adult will be able to function properly as long as they get in at least eight hours a day.
Unless it is a pregnant female she may need to get more.

Sleep is one of the key factors to survival. Studies show that we will die faster without it then from starvation. The exact purpose of why we need it is still a mystery. However, it has been proven that without it organ and other systems will not function correctly.

During the resting period the brain also takes a break. During the brains break it gets a lot of important things done that it is unable to do while we are awake. For example, during the resting period it is able to regroup information so it will be able to access it faster while we are awake. Also it gets rid of all of the unneeded information that we have gathered over the day.

Without rest numerous issues can come about. Lack of it has been known to cause people to have very bad mood swings which could lead to a change in their behavior. Also when someone is deprived of it they can have a very short attention span and also very short term memory.

When not resting becomes a problem it problem means that one has a disorder. A sleep disorder happens to be a medical condition. So a doctor will need to be seen to diagnose the exact disorder. There are numerous disorders that people develop. However, the ones that people develop the most are insomnia and narcolepsy. They both happen to be able to be cured though.

Insomnia happens to be a disorder that mostly everyone has heard of. It is when one has trouble going to sleep or either they cannot stay in that state. This can be brought on from other conditions, including depression. Also this condition has been determined to be hereditary in some cases. But it can be treated with sleep tablets or another sedative.

Narcolepsy is when someone can rest at night but during the day time they are still tired. Also it can be a genetic problem. With this condition treatment options it has to be matched to each person to make sure they get the results that are need. Oral treatments are a very common treatment option for this condition. Then there are times when the doctor will just tell a person to schedule a couple of naps into their schedule. Either of these methods works perfectly fine and will cure the sleep disorder.
