It is normal to feel sad and lonely for a period of time and being depressed is a natural reaction when faced with unpleasant situations. But if the feeling of depression doesn't seem to go away and stays for long period of time, it may affect a person's daily life style. Regardless of age, sex, health condition, or race, depression is never a normal part of life.
Some people may recognize depression because the symptoms are blatant and severe and they can tell that there is something wrong. There are other people that may feel sad and lonely for unknown reasons.
Not all People who experience depression experience the same symptoms. There are different ways people experience depression. The symptoms vary depending on how they experience the depressive disorder. There are also factors to be considered such as age, health situations, and experiences.
Some symptoms of depression are:
·Pessimism and sadness
·Loss of pleasure or interest in activities once enjoyed
·Change in weight
·Energy loss and fatigue
·Thoughts of death or attempts of suicide
·Difficulty in focusing and decision making
·Irritability and restlessness
·Persistent aches, pains, or health problems that do not get better even with treatment
·Changes in eating or sleeping habits
·Display of unusual and reckless behavior
Depression symptoms can get worse if left untreated. They can cause unreasonable pain and misery that may seriously lead to death wishes or worse; suicide. It can be life threatening if getting treatment is ignored. There are people who commit suicide while fighting with depression. It is unfortunate that there are people who suffer depression and can, in fact, recognize their symptoms but don't get themselves diagnosed or treated for the belief that they can handle their suffering.
It is therefore very important to know if you are experiencing depression and be able to recognize the symptoms. If you think you are, seek medical help immediately. It is better to work on it as early as possible to prevent any further suffering and continue to live a happy and normal life.
